DAY 45: SAT 6 OCT - AMSTERDAM

Rain again! 6-14 deg.   It’s got to be the wettest place I’ve been on tour.

Wendy left early for lectures and as it was raining I wasn't in a hurry to go out.

Eventually went to head out when I got a text from Wendy who had forgotten some papers, so delivered those to the convention centre, about 30 minutes by tram and metro.  Then headed off to the airport to check on a bike box.  Finally got there after many metros and buses just on my city pass; one driver let me on a bus I should have paid for.  Found the baggage centre and confirmed they had bike boxes.  I decided it would be better to ride the bike out to the airport the day of departure, box it up there and check it in. So in the end I didn’t need the free box from the local bike shop so I later put it in the paper skip near the motel.

Found a way back to the city on the pass, bus 69, followed by a tram.  It's fun finding your way around a new city as long as you have plenty of time to spare.    Ended up at a place I'd never been before, Sloterdijk Station.  Here I had a lovely fresh smoked salmon salad for lunch.  Caught a tram to the edge of the city and wandered through the antique area.  Then it was back to the motel for a rest and read before going out for dinner and the night scenery. Took some nice photos and checked out where Wendy’s function (Irish Reception) was taking place at a flash hotel in Dam Square.  As it was still going I caught the number 9 tram home.

A good day, in the end it did not rain much even though it was wet when I first started out in the morning. It is so much nicer when it is not raining.
