DAY 25: SUN 16 SEP - ANDERNACH TO BONN

Ride: 47km; total: 1,179km
Fine, sunny 11-19deg

The lovely old lady at Andernach cooked one boiled egg each for us for breakfast and thought she was doing wonders. The old, ill looking husband brought out the old guest book and proceeded to show us every international visitor since 1988.  We had to excuse ourselves in the end or we would have been there all day.  On the way out he had to show us the flood levels in 1992&3 which were well up the ground floor walls.

Got away about 7:45am travelling mostly alongside the Rhine through lovely villages and towns.  Arrived in Bonn at midday and the first motel we tried we got a twin room for 90euro including breakfast. It was right opposite the park Wendy and I enjoyed walking through during our visit in 2009.  Just as we were about to book in Wendy rang for her midday chat; what a coincidence.

Bonn has a great city centre so the afternoon was spent wandering around that.  Graham visited Beethoven's house.  It's nice to be settled into a room early which then gives you all afternoon and the night to look around.

Bonn of course was the capital of West Germany from 1949 to 1990 and the official seat of government of united Germany from 1990 to 1999.  Bonn is located in the very south of the largest metropolitan area in Germany.  It has developed into a hub of international cooperation, in particular in the area of environment and sustainable development. In addition to a number of other international organizations and institutions, such as the Environmental Law Centre, the city currently hosts 18 United Nations institutions.
