Partly cloudy, but fine 6-16deg
Best breakfast so far at the Berial Motel, including
individually made coffee and some prawn salad. Only took a few minutes
to get back on the Rhine mostly through parks.
Once there the path was wide and smooth. Very cool and it didn't warm up much all day, in
fact it felt cooler as we went. It started to rain about 7km from the
finish so I stopped and put my booties and hood on. Although it didn't
keep raining I felt warm for the first time in the day. The whole day saw some
fairly rough patches and some very good smooth paths. Stopped at Duisburg city centre for coffee then at the Inner Harbour
for lunch. It was cold sitting still so we didn't stay long. Duisburg is the largest inland
harbour in the world, which is not hard to believe when you cycle around all
the wharfs and canals.
Arrived at Rheinburg and found the Motel, Rheintor, 76euro
for a nice big twin room. Graham was
getting fairly tied again; he was 74 years old during this trip. We went
walking at separate times during the afternoon through a nice neat and clean
mall, but not a lot of people. Eventually I had a little sleep.
Rheinberg is a lovely city which doesn't look big enough to be one. It's
over 1,000 years old although it doesn't seem to have many really old
buildings, castles or walls. The bombs during WW2 took care of that.
It was too cold outside for a walk so it was up to the room,
clean teeth and into bed for some reading.
Another good day.
