The jetlag affected me again overnight and I awoke at 2:30am
and couldn't get back to sleep till about 4:00am. I then slept till 7:00am. Some trips to Europe the jetlag will not affect me but others it takes
a few days to get over it. That is why I
like to spend the first few days in the city I arrive. After breakfast I
headed out on the bike. Being a Sunday the streets were nice and quiet,
although surprisingly to me there was some broken glass around courtesy of the
Sat-nite-idiots. Managed to avoid riding over any of it and therefore annoying punctures.
Rode to the city centre and then along the northern side of Lake Zurich,
which has lots of interesting parks, gardens, statues and monuments. The
wind off the lake was cool so I was glad I took my rain jacket to keep warm. Ended up stopping at Starbucks for a nice hot
long black. A lot of people don't like
the chain coffee places but I'm not fussy when it comes to coffee; as long as
it is hot and wet it's good.
Rode back towards the motel and went to go to the
supermarket to buy lunch, but it didn’t open Sundays. No 7 days a week shopping
in Zurich. We take that for granted in Oz these
days. Had some nice chicken and rice in
a box for lunch. Back to the motel where I just relaxed and caught up on
the journal and some emails. That night I prepared my gear for an early
departure in the morning. I was looking forward to starting the ride.
