Woke at 2:00am due to the jetlag (Zurich was nine hours behind Qld) but managed
to get back to sleep after an hour or so of reading and writing my journal.
Got up early and went to the dining room for a plain but adequate cold
breakfast of cold meat, cheese, boiled egg and coffee.
I then finished adjusting the bike and took it for a test
ride; everything was working fine. At 10:00am Stefano Endrizzi, an
Italian who worked at a university in Zurich
(a friend of Janet, one of the ladies of my singing group) arrived at the hotel
to meet me. He seemed a nice bloke and we walked the couple of km into
the city as we chatted. After a wander
around I shouted him lunch at one of the 1,000s of cafe/restaurants. He
showed me some nice spots in the city that I may not have found myself and made
some recommendations for my journey ahead.
Due to the impending arrival of his girlfriend from Spain, he had to leave in order to
make preparations. It is always great to
meet new people, especially in this case as I did not know anyone in Zurich.
I then took an hour or so to walk back to the motel,
stopping on the way at a supermarket to pick up some smoked salmon and salad
for dinner. About 5:00pm the jet lag kicked in and I just had to sleep
for 30 minutes or so. I eventually fought it off and woke myself up but
at 8:00pm I lost the battle completely and went to bed. I suspected that
the extra time without proper sleep in Singapore was catching up with
me.
