DAY 16: FRI 7 SEP - BASEL TO MULHOUSE, FRANCE

Ride: 75km; total: 574km
Fine & sunny, 7 - 21deg.

A fairly industrial ride out of Basel through the factories, refineries and train/truck depots. Once out it was smooth gravel canal paths all the way to Mulhouse.  Took an excursion to Niffe which had some nice old buildings and an impressive large topiary owl in their memorial park.  The run into Mulhouse was also on the ordinary side, disjointed to get around industrial sites with some traffic.  Checked into the motel, 3 minutes walk from the central mall and 10 minutes to the main railway station where I was to meet Graham that night.

Had a big ride around the place on any path I could find and it's certainly a nice place which has put the numerous canals they have to good use as public spaces.  Did a recon for the ride out of the city the next day so we wouldn’t have any hassle with navigation in the morning. Graham arrived on time to the second, at 8:19pm via a TGV (fast train) from Paris. He had caught a total of 4 trains from his home in Hope Valley, near Sheffield, UK starting out at 6:30am.
